Fix-IT. Fixing IT for Women

The underrepresentation of girls and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields is particularly pronounced in computer sciences and perpetuates gender stereotypes. Universities try to attract more students with out-of-school laboratories where school students can gain experiences with STEM questions and experiments. However, it is unclear whether and how these laboratories influence career aspirations and choices. The project aims are twofold: (1) A longitudinal study analyzes whether laboratories concerning digitalization themes broaden the career interests and reduce the gender specifity of career choices. (2) An experimental study researches how job areas in digitalization (related to medicine, education, or mobility) should be presented to increase the attractiveness for girls and women to bring more diversity into the field of information technology.
