GeMiS - Gender, Migration und School

The study examines the role of individual (gender; migration background) and social factors (teachers expectations; parental school support) for secondary students’ interest in mathematics. Student questionnaire data was assessed at two measurement points in math classrooms. The study is funded by the European Social Fund (project term: 2009-2011; ESF Project no: ESF-Nr.: 2009 000 789). Results of the quantitative questionnaire study highlight the importance of teachers’ ability expectations and parental mathematics-related valuing for students’ mathematics interest.
